Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation Awards

OREF Unrestricted Research Grant

Since 2000, MTF has awarded the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation with one $100,000 unrestricted research grant to aid an investigator in funding their orthopaedic research project. OREF administers the research grant.

OREF Herndon Research Residency Awards

Through the Orthopaedic Research Education Foundation, two $20,000 grants are awarded in the name of Charles H. Herndon, MD, for orthopaedic resident research projects. The recipients of the 2007 Herndon Award are:

Jeffrey Spang, M.D., “The Effect of Menisectomy and Meniscal Allograft Transplant in the ACL Reconstructed Knee”, University of Connecticut, $20,000

Patrick Whitlock, M.D., Ph.D., “Development of Tissue-Engineered Construct for Flexor Tendon Reconstruction”, Wake Forest University, $20,000
