Allograft Storage System

MTF understands that storage space within an operating room can come at a premium. We also understand that since not every OR will utilize allografts during a procedure, they all can’t be equipped with the same inventory. However, you still need easy and convenient access to your grafting tissue. Therefore, MTF is proud to offer you an allograft storage system.

The creation of an allograft storage system permits simplistic organization, storage, labeling, inventory management and access of your MTF freeze dried tissue. And because your system is customized by both your MTF consultant and a Stanley Vidmar representative, you’ll be assured that we can create a storage system that best suits all of your needs.

Graft Matching

Graft Matching is one of the added value services provided by the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation through the Technical Services Dept. This service is designed to provide orthopaedic surgeons with the best possible, anatomically matched allograft for their patient, saving both the surgeon and staff valuable time from procurement to transplantation. Receiving a perfectly matched allograft eliminates extensive modifications at the time of transplantation, therefore reducing surgical time. We provide this service for our Large Graft inventory as well as Meniscal and Fresh Osteochondral allografts. The process for matching is carried out by Jack Barker R.S.A; OPA-C, Registered Specialist Assistant; orthopaedic Physician Assistant-Certified.

Once the match is achieved all information and data are discussed with the implanting surgeon for their final acceptance. After the graft is accepted by the surgeon arrangements are made for graft delivery.

  • The most stringent safety standards and donor testing allow MTF to provide the highest quality allograft available.
  • Prompt, timely service, same day response for most requests.
  • Direct, one on one consultation with a surgical specialist trained in orthopaedic surgery.
  • Extensive inventory provided by the world’s largest recovery network.

Professional Development

The Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation is committed to providing excellence in education through Professional Development Programs. Continuing Medical Education opportunities exist for surgeons, nurses, and health care professionals.

Bone Symposiums: The purpose of these CME programs is to review current authoritative and evaluative education material that enhances knowledge and facilitates the provision of improved patient care. The courses provide a synopsis of the most recent advancements to those involved in the transplantation of musculoskeletal allograft tissue.

Surgeon Education: Hands-On Skills Lab opportunities exist in conjunction with various professional organizations, such as the AAOS at the orthopaedic Learning Center, where surgeons gain procedural experience with musculoskeletal transplantation using MTF allograft tissue.

Nursing Education: Two ACCME approved ‘contact hour’ presentations are currently available.
• What are the Facts in Musculoskeletal Allograft Tissue Safety, Infectious Disease Testing & Regulation?
•Tissue Banking – What it Takes to get it Right

Speaker Program: This opportunity is made available through educational grants to an institution, organization, or society with a speaker request for presentations on
bone healing, clinical application of allograft tissue, bone grafting alternatives, safety and efficacy of tissue transplantation, or some other allograft related topic.

Transplant Teddy

The Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation (MTF) offers a program that provides teddy bears to pediatric recipients of MTF large grafts. The MTF Transplant Teddy is a Vermont Teddy Bear that wears the "Get Well Soon" motto on its t-shirt along with the MTF logo. The bears are sent to young musculoskeletal transplant patients (under 16 years of age) who have received a major allograft for limb salvage.

When a surgeon contacts the Foundation to obtain a large graft for their pediatric patient, the Transplant Teddy is shipped directly to the hospital where the surgery is being performed so the bear can be a companion and a source of comfort for the patient after surgery. Since the program’s inception in 2002, MTF has sent out numerous bears to large graft recipients all across the country and as far away as Switzerland.

MTF provides these bears to serve as a remembrance of the many donor families who have given the gift of life by consenting to tissue donation. Families of the tissue recipients are offered the opportunity to express their appreciation to their donor family if they so choose. MTF acts as the facilitator of the anonymous, confidential communication through a card or letter to the donor’s family.

For more information on the Transplant Teddy program, please contact your local MTF Allograft Consultant, or call 1-800-946-9008.
